What is The Great Lakes Body? Is it obese, comfort-food-fed and tobacco-fetid, coughing and wheezing through the working day?Is it heated and sweaty from fast-paced health club or school gym treadmills and Nautilus machines, getting in trim and hyper-efficient fighting form?is it softly erotic, sentimentally charged by grass-stained summer evenings, or long dark winters, hands exploring skin under flannel, under the comforter?Does it emerge from, and fit into, the post-industrial Midwest by becoming a cyborg, hooked into its own Kettering starter or electronically monitored by Obamacareful health professionals? Tisch Mikhail Lewis, also known as T.m. Lewis, is a relational artist interested in creating societal impact via convergent approaches to art. Primarily a painter, they use visual language to make sense of the world, communicate lived experiences within multiple jeopardy theory, & create safe spaces for mutual understanding. [...] They are currently focused on making magic happen in the Metro Detroit region & can be found either painting or staring into the void.
mike mosher
Mike Mosher grew up in Ann Arbor, where he studied with Afrocentric muralist Jon Onye Lockard. In California, he lived an adventurous life of art, community murals, newspapers, and 1980s computer graphics. He moved back to Michigan in 2000 to attend to family matters, teaching until 2024 at Saginaw Valley State University. Smith & Mosher’s George Orwell Illustrated is published by Haymarket Books.
